Woah! It's been nearly 1 year since ChatGPT's launch, and I've been using it for pretty much everything – brainstorming, visa applications, and creating quirky workshop openers.

If you’re someone looking for jobs right now, you can use it as your personal job search assistant. I have to tell you though this assistant ain’t proactive.

Every time you want help, you’ll have to prod it with new messages to get a response.

If it’s not giving you the answer you’re looking for, chances are you didn’t give it enough or the right information to go off of.

The other thing to remember is that it’s a people pleaser. It’ll confidently tell you something wrong, just because it thinks you will be happy with that answer.

So… use it as a starting point, but always always do your own research and trust your gut if you feel something’s off with the advice it’s giving you.

What exactly can ChatGPT help you with?

Sometimes, the trickiest aspect of a job search is figuring out where to begin. ChatGPT can be your guide during the planning stage by suggesting the job titles that align with your skills and preferences.

You can also discover which industries are on the rise or decline, the skills needed for specific sectors, and insights on the highest-paying jobs.

This is a bit tricky. I don't recommend letting ChatGPT rewrite your resume just by giving it the job description and your old resume.

The result can often sound like it was written by a robot (ahem ahem!), and it doesn't do a good job of highlighting your personal brand.

For best results, it's better to let it work one bullet at a time.

It’s still more wordy than you want it to be, but probably 10 times better than what we had previously, and what ChatGPT would have generated had we asked it to write the entire resume in one go.

ChatGPT can write interview responses for you. It can also act as your interviewer and stimulate a real life scenario.
